Summary

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) proposes a rule to change its regulations regarding affirmatively furthering fair housing (AFFH) for program participants. The proposed rule would establish a uniform reporting process, revise the definition of AFFH, develop metrics to compare jurisdictions, and require jurisdictions to certify they will AFFH by identifying concrete steps to be taken over 5 years. Public housing agencies would demonstrate their efforts to AFFH through the consolidated plan process. The proposed rule aims to effectively evaluate participants' compliance with their AFFH obligations. Comments on the proposed rule will be accepted for 60 days after publication in the Federal Register.
