Summary

The UC San Diego Center for Microbiome Innovation (CMI) processes thousands of human, animal, food, and built-environment samples annually, using advanced technologies like DNA sequencers and mass spectrometers to improve human health and the environment. However, the legacy storage resources were becoming insufficient to process high I/O tasks, resulting in degraded performance and compromised discovery pace. To address this, CMI implemented Panasas ActiveStor, which supports rapid analysis, storage, and retrieval of huge volumes of data with consistently high performance, enhances control of storage resources, and simplifies storage maintenance and optimization. The solution has improved the user experience, sped up data exploration and discovery, and enhanced control and usability of the compute environment, ensuring resources are available when needed.
