Martin Luther College's new president, Rev. Dr. Richard Gurgel, has arrived, bringing decades of experience in ministerial education and parish ministry, as well as 18 years of experience as an MLC parent. He replaces President Mark Zarling, who retired in June 2020. Gurgel served as a professor at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary from 1999 to 2020, teaching Christian education, homiletics, and Christian doctrine. He also served as a pastor at two WELS parishes and as an emergency instructor at a Lutheran high school. Gurgel is thankful for the opportunity to serve at MLC, citing God's ability to transform obstacles into opportunities for growth in faith, hope, and love. The college is navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, with students, faculty, and staff adapting to online platforms and finding new ways to do things. Despite these challenges, Gurgel is optimistic, saying "God never wastes anything" and encouraging the college community to give thanks for the blessings they have received.
