Summary

An experiment evaluated the efficacy of using common salt for weed management in jhum paddy in the Eastern Himalayas. Salt application at 120 kg/ha with two sprays resulted in significantly higher grain yield and weed control efficiency compared to hand weeding and control plots. The salt treatment also reduced chaffy grain and had a benefit-cost ratio of 1.79, making it the best weed management strategy. The study suggests that salt application can be an effective and economical method for controlling broad-leaved weeds in jhum paddy cultivation.
