The 40th regular general meeting of the Hokkaido branch of the Society of Heating, Air-Conditioning and Sanitary Engineers of Japan will be held on May 24, 2004, at Kaderu 2-7, 820 room, in Sapporo. The meeting will include a regular general meeting, the first SHASE technical fellow certification ceremony, and a ceremony to award the Hokkaido branch academic presentation encouragement prize. A special lecture will be given by Professor Tatsuo Kawamura, entitled "The Development of Gas-Insulated Power Equipment and Environmental Problems."

The meeting will also include reports on the activities and financial statements of the previous fiscal year, as well as discussions on the election of new officers and the business plan and budget for the current fiscal year.

In the previous fiscal year, the branch held various events, including a seminar on fuel cell-based energy systems for homes, a symposium on industrial ventilation, and a lecture on the latest trends in energy conservation. The branch also conducted a survey on the current state of indoor air pollution and its countermeasures, and held a meeting to discuss the development of a simulation system to support coordinated design by building owners, architects, and equipment designers.

The branch has 706 regular members, 24 supporting members, 5 special members, 1 honorary member, and 25 student members as of March 31, 2004.
