Summary

A population-based survey in Nigeria found that 41% of respondents practiced self-medication for COVID-19 prevention and treatment, despite 96.7% having sufficient knowledge about self-medication. The most common self-medication practices included taking vitamin C and multivitamins (51.8%) and antimalarials (24.9%). Factors associated with self-medication included fear of stigmatization, fear of quarantine, and fear of infection. The study suggests engaging medication outlets, media, and communities to promote rational use of medication.
