Summary

An experimental study was conducted to test the thermal performance of solar chimneys with metal foam as an absorber plate. The study compared the performance of two types of copper metal foam (10 PPI and 40 PPI) at three different heights (5 cm, 15 cm, and 25 cm). The results showed that the metal foam reduced the average temperature of the absorber plate, with the highest temperature reduction achieved at 5 cm height. The study also found that the absorber plate height decreased the air velocity at the solar chimney, but the use of metal foam increased the chimney's thermal efficiency. The maximum thermal efficiency was 72.1% at 5 cm height, and the maximum air change per hour was 27.21 at 5 cm height.
