St Bartholomew's Catholic School's Art curriculum is driven by four key principles: Independence, Dignity, Experience, and Aspiration, with an additional focus on Joy and SEND provision.

Independence is fostered through skills-based lessons, precise questioning, and self-selection of challenges, allowing children to develop their own independence, self-motivation, and determination.

Dignity is promoted by staff modeling a positive mindset, encouraging perseverance, and valuing mistakes as learning opportunities. Children are given time to practice and experiment, and are encouraged to take risks and make mistakes to improve their ideas.

Experience is provided through a range of activities, including outdoor lessons, hands-on experiences, and visits from artists, allowing children to make connections between skills learned in class and the world around them.

Aspiration is encouraged by staff having high expectations, modeling these in lessons, and providing opportunities for children to challenge themselves and share their positive experiences.

Joy is at the heart of every Art lesson, with a focus on fun and engaging teaching, and children are encouraged to express themselves freely.

SEND provision is tailored to individual needs, with staff aware of each child's strengths and learning needs, and adaptations made to ensure all children can access and progress in their learning.
