Summary

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are used as relays to collect time-sensitive information from IoT devices and deliver it to a terrestrial base station (TBS). To ensure timely delivery, optimal scheduling of information over two-hop UAV-relayed IoT networks is critical. This paper proposes scheduling policies for Age of Information (AoI) minimization in such networks, including a low-complexity MAF-MAD scheduler and a Deep-Q-Networks (DQN) based scheduler. The MAF-MAD scheduler is optimal under ideal conditions, while the DQN-based scheduler outperforms it under realistic conditions with small networks. However, the DQN-based scheduler does not scale well with network size, whereas MAF-MAD outperforms other schedulers in larger networks.
