The Catholic High School, Chester's charging policy is based on the Education Act 1996, which sets out the law on charging for school activities in England. The school will not charge for education provided during school hours, including materials and equipment, or for activities that are part of the National Curriculum, a prescribed public examination, or religious education. Charges may be made for optional extras, such as materials, books, or equipment for activities outside of school time, examination entry fees for exams not prepared for at the school, transport not required to attend school, and board and lodging for residential visits. Voluntary contributions may be requested for activities, but no child will be excluded due to inability to pay. The school will inform parents of support available for those on low incomes and in receipt of certain benefits, and will not charge for education provided on visits during school hours or for supply teachers covering absent teachers on residential visits.
