Summary

Researchers analyzed gatastatin, a potential γ-tubulin-specific inhibitor, to determine its molecular mode of action and binding affinity for α-β and γ tubulin. Computational simulations and experimental testing revealed that gatastatin does not show a strong preference for γ tubulin, suggesting that further derivatization may be needed to increase its specificity. The study aimed to identify a viable chemotherapeutic strategy for targeting γ tubulin, which is overexpressed in glioblastoma multiforme and some breast lesions, and could provide a more specific and selective approach to cancer treatment.
