Judy Holding is a Melbourne-based artist with a strong identity developed through a personal visual vocabulary of symbolic forms, particularly depictions of trees and birds. Her work reflects her love of Australian flora and fauna, and her travels through northern Australia have forged deep bonds with Indigenous residents. Holding's practice is underpinned by regular travel and research trips, and she has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions across Australia. She has been a finalist in several awards, including the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery National Works on Paper Award and the Montalto Sculpture Prize, and her work is represented in collections throughout Australia, including the National Gallery of Australia and the Museum & Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. Holding has a Diploma of Fine Art from Monash University and has completed residencies overseas, including in Italy, Ireland, Nepal, and India. Her solo exhibitions include "The wren and the Pardalote", "Place", and "Voices from the Land I", and she has participated in group exhibitions such as "Here", "Art Aid", and "Paper: cut, stain, fold, press".
