Summary

This research determines the thermal comfort condition in traditional Malay houses in Perak, comparing measurements of air temperature, relative humidity, and air velocity in two newly built houses (Kutai and Perak) with the comfort range standards specified by MS1525:2007. The results show that the high temperature inside both houses exceeds the recommended comfort range, while air velocity and relative humidity are within the recommended ranges. The study concludes that traditional Malay houses do not achieve thermal comfort due to high internal air temperatures, and recommends the use of insulation if metal or onduline is used for roofing, as Nipah has a high R-value that prevents heat gain.
