This chapter explores the use of violence in Serious Organised Crime (SOC), examining the phenomenon from macro and micro perspectives, and utilizing psychological, sociological, and cultural theories. It analyzes international empirical evidence from longstanding hierarchical groups, such as the Costra Nostra and Yakuza, and compares 4109 UK-based organised crime offenders with other cohorts. The study concludes that a 'one-size fits all' approach cannot explain the diversity of violence found within Organised Crime Groups, and that multiple explanations are necessary to account for this diversity.
