Summary

Researchers evaluated anterior and posterior corneal higher-order aberrations for detecting keratoconus and suspect keratoconus. The study included 220 eyes, with 108 normal, 42 suspect keratoconus, and 70 keratoconus eyes. Anterior corneal higher-order aberrations, particularly RMS coma, effectively differentiated between suspect keratoconus and normal eyes. Posterior corneal higher-order aberrations were less effective in distinguishing suspect keratoconus from normal eyes but were excellent in detecting keratoconus. The findings suggest that corneal aberrometry can be valuable in screening for keratoconus, especially in populations with a high prevalence of the disease.
