Summary

Infant mortality and morbidity rates can be reduced with early detection of illness signs and symptoms, including infection and hypothermia, during the neonatal period. Providing training and tools to Health Auxiliaries (HAs) can improve outcomes, and accurate temperature measurement is a key identifier of illness. However, there are no temperature measuring devices that meet the needs of HAs with limited literacy, and comprehensive graphic training materials are not available in low-resource settings. Team Krest aims to address these gaps by developing a simple and innovative temperature measurement device and training materials for HAs in the Tribal Health Initiative in India, where the infant mortality rate is 44/1,000 live births, with 31 deaths occurring during the neonatal period.
