The size and complexity of testbench code have increased dramatically with the adoption of SystemVerilog and UVM, making it essential to objectively measure the quality of the verification environment. Traditional methods like code and functional coverage provide insight into stimulus capabilities but not detection capabilities. Functional Qualification tools, such as Synopsys/Springsoft's Certitude, fill this gap by introducing faults into the design code and checking if they are detected by the testbench, highlighting potential weaknesses in the verification environment.
