Summary

Breast cancer is a major cause of death among women, and early detection is crucial for successful treatment. X-ray mammography is a common procedure for diagnosing breast cancer due to its simplicity, portability, and cost-effectiveness. A computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system using adaptive median filtering and texture analysis is proposed for mass detection in digital mammograms. The algorithm is implemented in MATLAB and tested on images from the Mammographic Image Analysis Society (MIAS) database. The results show a mass sensitivity of 92.307% at 2.75 False Positive per Image (FPI), which is considered a proper result in this field of research.
