Summary

The new mandate, OAR 333-019-1015, requires individuals over 2 years old to wear a mask in indoor settings at school during regular hours, educational activities, and outside regular hours. Exceptions include eating, drinking, sleeping, playing musical instruments, certain sports, and being alone in a private office. The rule took effect on August 2, 2021, and is subject to enforcement from August 12, 2021. Non-compliant schools face a $500 daily penalty. The mandate aims to ensure in-person attendance for the 2021-2022 school year by reducing infections and quarantines. The rule will be reviewed monthly, with the goal of returning to local decision-making. Masks are not required at district offices, non-school sites, or board meetings, as these are local decisions.
