Summary

The Froglands Project aimed to develop a community-based private stewardship program for protecting wetlands within the Annapolis watershed in southern Nova Scotia. The project involved creating a community stewardship agreement, training participants, and conducting inventories and monitoring of wetlands. The goals included developing a monitoring kit, identifying community groups and wetlands, and researching a model stewardship agreement. The project achieved the development of a general monitoring kit, presentations to over 1,000 people, completion of a model community stewardship agreement, and coverage of 80+ hectares of privately owned wetlands. Eleven schools and three 4-H groups participated, with a total of 14 groups involved in inventory, monitoring, and management of wetlands. The project also compiled wetland activities and information packages for participants, and established a code of ethics for visiting wetlands on private property.
