The Geography Skills Progression Map outlines the progression of geography skills for students from EYFS to Year 6, covering four main areas: Locational and Place Knowledge, Human and Physical Geography, Geographical Skills (Enquiry and Investigation, Fieldwork, Interpret a Range of Sources of Geographical Information, and Communicate Geographical Information).

Locational and Place Knowledge progresses from naming and locating parts of the local community to naming and locating an extensive range of places in the world, including globally and topically significant features and events.

Human and Physical Geography progresses from using the local area to explore the environment to using geographical language to identify and explain key aspects of human and physical features and patterns, as well as links and interactions between people, places, and environments.

Geographical Skills progress in four areas:
- Enquiry and Investigation: from commenting and asking questions to recognizing geographical issues and asking causal questions.
- Fieldwork: from finding out about the environment through simple methods to observing, measuring, and recording human and physical features using a range of methods.
- Interpret a Range of Sources of Geographical Information: from using simple maps and photographs to interpreting a wider range of geographical information and maps, including scale, projections, thematic, and digital maps.
- Communicate Geographical Information: from arousing awareness of features in the environment to communicating geographical information using a wide range of methods, including writing at increasing length.
