Internet cambia la forma de leer y pensar, según algunos expertos. La lectura en horizontal, a saltos rápidos y muy variados, se ha extendido, y se pregunta si la Red está reeducando nuestro cerebro. El ensayista Nicholas G. Carr asegura que ya no piensa como antes y que la lectura profunda se ha convertido en un esfuerzo debido al uso prolongado de Internet. Los neurólogos sostienen que todas las actividades mentales influyen a un nivel biológico en el cerebro, y que la información presentada en una forma determinada puede hacer que el cerebro aprenda esa estructura. Un estudio del University College de Londres indica que los usuarios de Internet "echan vistazos" a la información en lugar de detenerse en ella, y que no suelen volver atrás. Los expertos inciden en que se trata de un cambio vertiginoso y sin precedentes, y que la Red ha provocado que la gente se comporte de manera diferente con respecto a la información.
