Summary

Le village de Maillé, en Touraine, a subi un massacre le 25 août 1944, au cours duquel 124 habitants, dont 44 enfants, ont été tués et 52 habitations détruites. Les Allemands, qui occupaient la région, ont mené une action de répression en représailles à une embuscade qui avait eu lieu la veille. Cependant, les circonstances exactes de ce massacre et les responsabilités des différents acteurs impliqués restent encore floues. Les recherches historiques ont montré que les Allemands avaient un intérêt majeur à sécuriser la région pour leur repli, quelques jours seulement avant sa libération. Le sous-lieutenant Gustav Schlüter a été condamné par contumace pour son rôle dans le massacre, mais il est peu probable qu'il ait pu agir seul. Les questions sur la chaîne de commandement et les responsabilités des officiers du camp de Nouâtre restent sans réponse.
