The lower shoreface is a complex environment with various bedforms, including ripples, tidal sand waves, and ridges, which interact and affect the flow, sediment transport, and morphodynamic evolution of the seabed. However, these bedforms are often studied in isolation, and little is known about their two-way couplings and effects on basin-scale hydrodynamics. This research aims to address these knowledge gaps by investigating the effects of sand waves on basin-scale hydrodynamics, understanding how sand waves affect the flow at sand wave field scales, and revealing sand wave morphodynamics on a sloping background topography. A novel method is presented to parametrize bedform friction, allowing for the inclusion of sand wave effects on hydrodynamics in basin-scale modeling studies. Preliminary results show that the presence of sand waves deflects and modifies the flow, highlighting the importance of considering bedform-induced friction in basin-scale flows.
