Summary

The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals has a Standing Committee with rules of procedure. The Committee provides policy direction, carries out interim activities, oversees budget development, and represents the Conference of the Parties. It consists of 10 Parties nominated by the Conference, with regional representation and alternate members. Each member has a Representative and Alternate Representative, with the Representative exercising voting rights. The Committee elects a Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson, and the Secretariat provides a secretary for meetings. The Committee meets at least once a year, with decisions taken by consensus or simple majority vote. A summary record of each meeting is prepared and communicated to all Parties. The Committee also has a communication procedure for decision-making by postal procedure.
