The Town of Canajoharie Council met on January 5, 2012, for a regular monthly meeting and reorganization. Attendees included Supervisor Herbert Allen, Councilmen Judith Burgess, John Toomey, Jr., and Rodney Young. The agenda was approved, and the minutes of the December meeting were unanimously approved.

Newly elected Town Justice Philip Gizzi introduced himself and discussed his experiences. The council made various organizational appointments, including Town Attorney Douglas Landon, Bookkeeper Amy Kretser, and Code Enforcement/Zoning Officer Les Hassan.

Resolutions were passed regarding miscellaneous assignments, including the official newspaper, depository, and mileage reimbursement rates. The Highway Superintendent was authorized to purchase snowplow blades and offer additional time to his deputy.

The council received a request for funding from the County Office for the Aging and tabled the matter until the February meeting. Amendments to the Ames fire contract were approved, and the Supervisor will investigate options for handling dangerous dogs.

The council discussed the possibility of a financial audit and gave permission to the Supervisor to contact a retired auditor. The annual agreement for the expenditure of highway money was signed, and the Highway Superintendent updated the council on FEMA money for damage from tropical storms Irene and Lee.

The council entered executive session to discuss litigation but made no decisions. Bills were presented and paid, and the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM.
