Summary

The Marine Environment Protection Committee adopted Resolution MEPC.291(71) on July 7, 2017, which includes the 2017 Guidelines for addressing additional aspects of the NOx Technical Code 2008 regarding marine diesel engines fitted with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems. The guidelines provide guidance on design, testing, surveys, and certification of these engines to ensure compliance with MARPOL Annex VI regulation 13. They cover pre-certification procedures, family and group concepts for engine systems, test procedures for Scheme A and Scheme B, and on-board confirmation tests. The guidelines supersede the 2011 Guidelines and invite Administrations to take them into account when certifying engines fitted with SCR systems.
