Mission: CRT is a non-profit organization dedicated to safeguarding and promoting oral craft traditions and craftspersons across South and Southeast Asia. They believe in the power of free and open access to information for individual and societal development.

Key Objectives:

Documentation & Knowledge Bank: Research, document, and preserve knowledge and skills of oral craft traditions.
Networking: Create a network of crafts people and promote respect for their creativity and hand skills.
Advocacy: Establish a rights-based platform for advocating on behalf of craftspersons.
Education & Revitalization: Facilitate interest in crafts among future generations through education and revitalization programs.

Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Work:

Domains: Oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, knowledge concerning nature, traditional craftsmanship.
Safeguarding Activities: Identification, documentation, research, preservation, promotion, transmission through education (formal & non-formal), revitalization.

Experience:

Weaver Livelihood Protection: Addressed threats to Benaras brocade weavers by advocating for sustainable practices and legal protection.
Snake Charmer Rehabilitation: Collaborated with a wildlife conservationist to help snake charmers transition to sustainable livelihoods after the ban on their traditional practice.
Public Engagement: Conducted workshops in schools and public venues promoting respect for hand crafts through activities like natural dyeing, paper making, tie-dyeing, and Sanjhi paper cutting.
Policy Advocacy: Engaged with government bodies like the Planning Commission and Prime Minister’s Office on issues affecting weavers and craftspersons.

Operational Capacities: Documented evidence of CRT's operational capacities will be provided as per ICH Operational Directives (paragraph 94).
