Summary

Heat sinks are used to transfer heat from electronic components to the surrounding air, preventing overheating. This project numerically simulates the effect of Reynolds number on heat transfer rate in sparse and dense design pin fin heat sinks with multi-jet impingement. The study finds that increasing Reynolds number increases heat transfer rate, and denser designs produce higher heat transfer rates than sparse designs. Symmetry of heat transfer patterns occurs in minimum cross flow conditions. The simulation is carried out for three Reynolds numbers (7000, 9000, and 11000) and z/D ratio of 6.
