Summary

President Asif Ali Zardari ordered a probe into reports of discrimination against minorities in flood relief operations in Sindh province, calling for action against officials if found involved. The President stated that floods should unite people, not divide them, and that discrimination on ethnic or religious grounds cannot be tolerated. Reports emerged of Dalits being denied aid, refused shelter, and driven out of relief camps due to their caste, with local philanthropists and government officials allegedly discriminating against them. Editorial pieces and news articles highlighted the entrenched discrimination in Pakistan, emphasizing that resources should be provided to all flood victims regardless of ideology, and that discrimination would only deepen the divide and cause resentment.
