Summary

The Search and Hyperlinking Task at MediaEval 2013 consisted of two sub-tasks: answering known-item queries from a collection of 1200 hours of broadcast TV material and linking anchors within the known-item to other parts of the video collection. The task used a dataset provided by the BBC, including human-generated textual metadata, manual transcripts, and output from automatic speech recognition systems and visual analysis. A user study was conducted to define realistic queries and anchors, and participants were required to submit up to 5 different approaches for the search subtask, which was evaluated using mean reciprocal rank, mean generalized average precision, and mean average segment precision. The linking subtask involved generating link targets for anchors created by users, and was evaluated using crowdsourcing via Amazon's Mechanical Turk platform.
