Summary

The Flu can spread through droplets from coughs or sneezes, direct contact with an infected person, or by touching contaminated surfaces. The Flu virus can live on high-touchpoint surfaces for 24-48 hours, softer surfaces for 8-12 hours, and on hands for up to 15 minutes. People are most contagious with the Flu for 1 day before symptoms begin and 3-4 days after the illness begins. To prevent the Flu, wear gloves when cleaning, disinfect surfaces with a bleach solution or approved cleaning solution, wash hands often, avoid touching your face with unwashed hands, avoid close contact with sick people, cover coughs and sneezes, and wear a mask when possible.
