The study examines the interaction between wood density and hardness in eight wood species, classified into three groups based on density: below 500 kg/m³, 500-700 kg/m³, and above 700 kg/m³. The results show a linear dependence between wood density, static hardness, and dynamic hardness, allowing for the proposal of a two-level model. The model enables the simple and fast determination of probable wood density and static hardness values based on steel pin depth penetration. The study finds that spruce is the most desirable wood species for this model, and the results can be applied to determine the properties of wood in situ.
