Summary

He discusses the distinction between zero morphemes and absent morphemes, and argues that morpho-syntactic features must be distinguished from formatives. Zwicky also introduces the concept of referral rules to capture generalizations about inflectional apparatus that cannot be captured by rules of exponence alone.
