Summary

The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia ruled on a judicial review of the phrase "Nasional" in the explanation of Article 2 paragraph (2) of the Corruption Eradication Act. Petitioners, including lecturers, students, and individuals affected by natural disasters, argued the phrase was unconstitutional. The Court found that only two petitioners had legal standing, as they were directly affected by natural disasters and experienced losses. The Court considered the constitutionality of the phrase in relation to the rule of law, as referred to in Article 1 paragraph (3) of the 1945 Constitution, and found the petitioners' arguments unclear and too vague. The Court rejected the petitions of some petitioners and declared that others could not be accepted. The decision was made on May 20, 2019.
