The Western Region Section of USA Swimming held its Summer 2017 meeting on July 21, 2017, at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon. Attendees included representatives from various teams and clubs. The meeting covered several topics, including financial reports, meet bids, and rule changes. The section accepted the minutes of the previous meeting and the financial report for the period from February 28, 2017, to July 12, 2017. The treasurer reported a cash balance of $2,943.55 as of July 12, 2017. The section also discussed and approved several meet bids, including the Spring 2018 Sectionals and Summer 2018 Sectionals. Additionally, the section elected new officers, including Shawn Smith as vice-chair and Jeff Gudman as secretary. The meeting also addressed old and new business, including a complaint against the host of the Spring 2017 Four Corners Sectional meet and proposals for tiered team awards and changes to the summer sectional meet format. The section approved changes to the summer meet format, including lengthening the meet to 4 ½ days and running individual events fastest to slowest, alternating women and men heats.
