Summary

Wissenschaftliche Studien zeigen, dass ein PSA-Screening für 55- bis 69-jährige Männer über einen Zeitraum von 16 Jahren sowohl nutzen als auch schaden kann. Möglicher Nutzen: 3 von 1.000 Männern werden durch das PSA-Screening davor bewahrt, Metastasen zu entwickeln und am Prostatakarzinom zu sterben. Möglicher Schaden: Bei etwa 250 von 1.000 Männern schlägt der PSA-Test fälschlicher Weise Alarm, bei 130 von 1.000 Männern mit auffälligem PSA-Wert bestätigt sich der Krebsverdacht, doch bei bis zu 60 von diesen 130 Männern hätte der Krebs ohne das Screening bis zum Lebensende nie Probleme verursacht. Die Empfehlungen nach aktuellem Wissensstand: Männer von 55–69 Jahren sollten die Entscheidung für oder gegen das PSA-Screening gemeinsam mit ihrem Arzt erarbeiten, ab 70 Jahren sollte kein PSA-Screening mehr angeboten werden, weil dann der Schaden größer ist als der Nutzen.
