A YouGov survey of over 5,000 adults in Great Britain found that 67% of respondents believe Britain is a democratic country, but many are unhappy with the way Parliament works. Only 15% of respondents in England, 12% in Scotland, and 14% in Wales think Parliament does a good job of representing their interests. The survey also found that 35% of the public cannot think of a single feature of the political system to praise, while 84% can list at least one feature to criticize. The most unpopular features are those related to the business of gathering, using, and monitoring power, such as how MPs and peers are chosen and the quality of politicians. In contrast, the role of the Queen and the coverage of politics by broadcasters and newspapers are viewed more positively. Overall, the survey suggests that there is a deep-seated discontent with British democracy, with many people feeling that it is fundamentally flawed.
