The University Grants Commission (UGC) has guidelines for autonomous colleges, which aim to promote academic excellence by giving colleges the freedom to determine their own courses, syllabi, and admission rules. The objectives of autonomous colleges include promoting research, using modern educational technology, and engaging in community service. There will be a symbiotic relationship between the parent university, state government, and autonomous college, with the university supporting the college in designing curricula and evaluating students. The role of the parent university includes encouraging academic freedom, facilitating new courses, and nominating academicians to serve on college committees. The state government will nominate an academician to the UGC Expert Committee and provide support to government colleges granted autonomous status. Eligibility for autonomous status includes completing 10 years of existence, having valid NAAC accreditation with a minimum of 'A' Grade, and meeting other requirements.
