Summary

Emissions of reactive volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from ships at berth increased significantly after implementing the fuel switch policy in the Pearl River Delta Emission Control Area.
Coastal vessels (before IFSP): Top 25 VOC species accounted for 93.4% of total VOC emissions, with n-decane (7.40%), n-undecane (16.20%), and n-dodecane (15.78%) being the most abundant.
Coastal vessels (after IFSP): Top 25 VOC species accounted for 95.5% of total VOC emissions, with ethylene (23.88%), propene (10.89%), and n-undecane (2.61%) being the most abundant.
River vessels: Top 25 VOC species accounted for 92.2% of total VOC emissions, with ethane (0.94%), n-butane (1.18%), and n-octane (0.60%) being the most abundant.
Fuel consumption rates: Ranged from 0.1 to 4.1 t/d for coastal vessels and 0.1 to 0.3 t/d for river vessels.
Engine loads: Ranged from 34% to 65% for coastal vessels and 32% to 40% for river vessels.

Comparison with Previous Studies

Emission factors for VOCs from ships at berth were compared with previous studies, showing significant variations in VOC profiles and emission rates.
RO3 (g O3 g-1 VOCs) and RSOA (g SOA g-1 VOCs): Calculated results based on VOCs source profiles were compared with previous studies, highlighting the need for further research on VOC emissions from ships at berth.
