Summary

The Grapes Hotel, built around 1880, was originally a 'Family Hotel' catering to travelers visiting Formby after the opening of the Liverpool to Southport Railway. Opposite the hotel is the Embassy Building, which was initially an ice-skating rink in 1928 and later became a cinema in 1932. The Green Lane Conservation Area features historic buildings, including Thimble Hall and May Cottage, with May Cottage possibly dating back to the early 17th century. St. Peter's Church, built in 1742, replaced the old Formby Chapel and features a bell from 1661 and a royal coat of arms from 1710. The churchyard contains a Battlefield Cross commemorating eight members of the King's Liverpool Regiment who died in WWI. Nearby, the Formby Cricket Club, founded in 1865, has expanded to include other sports and was used for army drills during WWI.
