From Miletus, he sent for the elders of the church in Ephesus, and when they arrived, he told them to be vigilant and take care of the flock, as the Holy Spirit had appointed them as overseers to shepherd the church of Christ. He warned them that fierce wolves would attack the flock, and even from among their own ranks, people would arise and distort the truth to draw away disciples. Paul reminded them of his three years of ministry among them, during which he had not ceased to warn them with tears, and he commended them to God and the word of His grace, which could build them up and give them an inheritance among all who are sanctified. He also reminded them that he had not coveted anyone's silver, gold, or clothing, and that he had worked with his own hands to support himself and those with him, setting an example for them to follow. After speaking, Paul knelt down and prayed with them.
