Researchers from Ukraine's National Academy of Sciences and National Technical University analyzed satellite data to assess land degradation in Ukraine as part of the UN's global initiative to combat desertification. They compared global and regional satellite products with 300m and 30m spatial resolution, respectively, to monitor trends in land cover change and land productivity dynamics. The results showed that global products had lower accuracy, particularly in identifying arable land, due to their lower spatial resolution and lack of consideration for Ukraine's agricultural specifics. The study concluded that regional products with higher accuracy should be used to supplement global products for more accurate land degradation assessments.
