Microbiota plays a key role in maintaining the homeostasis of the human body, performing significant functions such as energy metabolism, maturation and maintenance of the immune system, vitamin synthesis, and regulation of reverse absorption in the intestines of bile acids. Bacteria produce analogues of human hormones, including serotonin, histamine, dopamine, norepinephrine, and testosterone, which affect the brain and form habits, taste preferences, and behavior. The concept of the axis "intestines - brain - intestines" has become a paradigm, with some authors extending it to include the interaction between the intestinal microbiota and the immune system. Modern molecular genetic studies prove that dysbiosis occurs in many diseases, determining the development of chronic sluggish inflammation, oxidative stress, and metabolic disorders. Maintaining homeostasis and normal metabolism is not possible without restoring the variety of beneficial intestinal microbiota associations.
