Elections are one of the most important forms of political participation and democratic transformation, and they are the primary means of peaceful transfer of power, enhancing political participation, ensuring human rights, and establishing the principle of equal opportunities for all. The electoral process in Iraq involves several procedures implemented by the Independent High Electoral Commission, starting from the legal framework for electoral legislation and determining the shape of the electoral system, to preparing the voter register, registering political parties and candidates, and conducting electoral campaigns. The commission aims to develop the electoral process according to international standards, ensure transparency and fairness, and build trust with its partners. The electoral process typically goes through three stages, and the commission reviews and evaluates the process after its completion to identify strengths and weaknesses and prepare for future elections.
