Summary

SEAFDEC/AQD had a significant year in 2011, with various accomplishments in research and development, training, and information dissemination for sustainable aquaculture development in Southeast Asia. The department's commodity programs were changed into thematic programs starting in 2012, focusing on areas such as social and economic challenges, quality seeds, healthy and wholesome aquaculture, environmental integrity, and climate change. AQD implemented 86 studies, published 36 papers, and extended its technologies to clients through its AquaBusiness mechanism. The department also conducted 26 training courses, with 328 trainees from 10 SEAFDEC member countries, and increased fish health awareness in Lao PDR through a trust fund program. AQD's workplan for 2012-2016 was deliberated and endorsed by relevant committees, and the department received continued support from its host country, the Philippines, with a budget of Php170 million.
