Summary

The University of Illinois Chicago's Department of Disability and Human Development (DHD) and Institute on Disability and Human Development (IDHD) faced challenges in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and systemic racism. Despite these challenges, the department and its members made significant efforts and accomplishments, including developing a COVID-19 guidance webpage, creating a mask-making initiative, and promoting disability justice. Researchers published papers on health and disability, including studies on depression and anxiety in adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and the relationship between physical activity, obesity, and cholesterol levels in adults with IDD. New projects were funded in 2020, focusing on healthy brain initiatives and COVID-19 response. The department remains committed to social justice and continues to work towards facilitating healing and justice for all.
