1. Industry Judgment BSIs (Graph 1)

The industry judgment BSIs for all industries in Chiba Prefecture for the 1st to 3rd quarter of 2022 were -2.4, showing a worsening trend compared to the previous quarter (-4.7). This is the second consecutive quarter that the BSIs have worsened, with a 4-period worsening trend. The industry judgment BSIs for manufacturing and non-manufacturing industries were -8.2 and -3.1, respectively, both showing a worsening trend. Within manufacturing, large companies showed a slight improvement, while small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) showed a significant worsening trend. In non-manufacturing, both large and SMEs showed a worsening trend.

The industry judgment BSIs for the 4th to 6th quarter of 2022 are expected to continue worsening.

2. Sales BSIs (Graph 2)

The sales BSIs for all industries in Chiba Prefecture for the 1st to 3rd quarter of 2022 were 2.4, showing a 4-period improvement trend. The sales BSIs for manufacturing and non-manufacturing industries were -3.3 and 7.5, respectively, both showing an improvement trend. Within manufacturing, industries such as steel and non-ferrous metals, metal products, and plastics showed a worsening trend, while industries such as ceramics and soil, oil and chemicals, and electrical machinery showed an improvement trend. In non-manufacturing, all six industries showed an improvement trend.

The sales BSIs for the 4th to 6th quarter of 2022 are expected to worsen.

3. Production, Operation Rate, Order, and Inventory BSIs

(1) Production BSIs (Graphs 3 and 4)

The production BSIs for manufacturing in Chiba Prefecture for the 1st to 3rd quarter of 2022 were -4.8, showing a 2-period worsening trend and a 4-period decreasing trend. The production BSIs for large and SMEs were -4.1 and -5.1, respectively, both showing a worsening trend. Within manufacturing, industries such as plastics, other manufacturing, and oil and chemicals showed an improvement trend, while industries such as steel and non-ferrous metals, metal products, and transportation machinery showed a worsening trend.

The production BSIs for the 4th to 6th quarter of 2022 are expected to continue worsening.

(2) Operation Rate BSIs (Graph 3)

The operation rate BSIs for manufacturing in Chiba Prefecture for the 1st to 3rd quarter of 2022 were -7.0, showing a 2-period worsening trend and a 4-period worsening trend. The operation rate BSIs for large and SMEs were -5.4 and -7.7, respectively, both showing a worsening trend. Within manufacturing, industries such as ceramics and soil, oil and chemicals, and plastics showed an improvement trend, while industries such as metal products, steel and non-ferrous metals, and transportation machinery showed a worsening trend.

The operation rate BSIs for the 4th to 6th quarter of 2022 are expected to remain unchanged.

(3) Order BSIs (Graphs 3 and 4)

The order BSIs for manufacturing and construction in Chiba Prefecture for the 1st to 3rd quarter of 2022 were -4.1, showing a 3-period improvement trend but a 7-period decreasing trend. The order BSIs for large and SMEs were -1.4 and -5.9, respectively, both showing a worsening trend. Within manufacturing, industries such as steel and non-ferrous metals, metal products, and transportation machinery showed a worsening trend, while industries such as ceramics and soil, electrical machinery, and oil and chemicals showed an improvement trend.

The order BSIs for the 4th to 6th quarter of 2022 are expected to worsen.

(4) Inventory BSIs (Graph 3)

The inventory BSIs for all industries in Chiba Prefecture for the 1st to 3rd quarter of 2022 were 3.3, showing a 2-period worsening trend and a 4-period excessive trend. The inventory BSIs for manufacturing and non-manufacturing industries were 4.3 and 2.1, respectively, both showing a worsening trend. Within manufacturing, industries such as other manufacturing, electrical machinery, and retail showed an excessive trend, while industries such as metal products, transportation machinery, construction, logistics, and hotels and inns showed a normal trend. In non-manufacturing, industries such as construction, logistics, and hotels and inns showed a normal trend, while industries such as ceramics and soil, services, and retail showed a shortage trend.

The inventory BSIs for the 4th to 6th quarter of 2022 are expected to improve.
