Summary

McGill University's Faculty of Dentistry provides free/subsidized dental care and oral health education to underserved communities in Montreal through its Service to the Community program. The program includes various clinics, such as the McGill Mobile Dental Clinic, Immigrant & Refugee Pediatric Dental Clinic, and Jim Lund Clinic, which serve vulnerable populations, including children, adults, seniors, refugees, and immigrants. In 2019-2020, the program delivered free and subsidized dental treatments to thousands of people, with 6,186 patients seen and 21,229 visits to clinics, valued at $2,954,476. The program aims to improve oral health and well-being, particularly for those who cannot afford or access dental care, and to train compassionate and community-engaged dentists. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the clinics were closed after March 13, 2020, and the faculty is working to adapt and move forward beyond the pandemic.
