Summary

The East-West Tie is a 450km, double-circuit, 230kV transmission line connecting Wawa and Lakehead Transformer Stations, ensuring long-term reliability of electricity supply in northwestern Ontario. Construction began in September 2019, but COVID-19 delays have pushed the in-service date to March 2022. NextBridge has partnered with Supercom, a 100% Indigenous-owned company, and Valard, the general contractor, to support local employment and contracting opportunities. The project promotes economic participation by Indigenous communities, with approximately 50% of contract staff from Indigenous communities and a 20% ownership stake for six proximate First Nations once completed.
